Sitemap validator and viewer
Open any XML sitemap, see every URL, and find missing lastmod dates, duplicates, redirects and broken pages.
Check a sitemap in three steps
- STEP 1
Paste a site or sitemap
Enter a domain and we find the sitemap from robots.txt, or paste the sitemap URL directly.
- STEP 2
Review the URLs
See every URL with its lastmod date, plus warnings for duplicates, http links, other domains and bad dates.
- STEP 3
Check status codes
Check up to 2,000 URLs for 200, redirects and errors, then export everything to CSV.
What makes a good sitemap?
A sitemap should list only the pages you want indexed: live pages that return 200, on the same domain, with https and their final address (no redirects). Each file can hold up to 50,000 URLs, and an accurate lastmod date helps Google and Bing recrawl pages that changed.
Usually at yoursite.com/sitemap.xml or /sitemap_index.xml, and it should be listed in robots.txt. Just enter your domain and we look in all three places.
Yes. We follow the index and read up to 50 sitemap files and 50,000 URLs.
Google uses lastmod to decide when to recrawl a page, as long as the dates are accurate. Missing or fake dates (every page changed today) are ignored.
No. List the final address only. Redirects and 404 pages in a sitemap waste crawl budget and make Google trust the sitemap less.
Not yet. Check the uncompressed sitemap.xml instead.
Status checks cover up to 2,000 URLs at a time, with a fair-use limit per visitor to protect the sites being checked.
